About the project

U.S. Food and Drug Administration

The FDA is responsible for protecting the public health. They have brought the potential hazard of skin injuries due to x-rays to the public consciousness through several advisories and have encouraged dose monitoring during long fluoroscopic procedures. The FDA has provided support for this project through SBIR grants # R43FD-01584-01 and # R44 FD-01584-02.

 

Esensors, Inc. Esensors, Inc.

Esensors, Inc. is an electronic sensor development company, established in 2000 by its current President, Dr. Darold Wobschall. Esensors, Inc. is appointed as the research and development unit of this project.

 

The State University of New York at Buffalo

The State University of New York at Buffalo is a subcontractor on the project and researchers from the Departments of Radiology, Neurosurgery, Physics and Electrical Engineering and from the NYS Center for Engineering Design & Industrial Innovation (NYSCEDII) have participated in the system development. Daniel R. Bednarek, Ph.D is the project director for the university effort.

 

Toshiba Stroke Research Center

The Toshiba Stroke Research Center at the State University of New York at Buffalo is founded on the principles of collaboration, and it is a true example of multidisciplinary cooperation and partnership. This has been the main site for the prototype development and testing. Toshiba Medical Systems, Inc. has provided an equipment grant to the Center.

 

Tactus Technologies, Inc

Tactus Technologies, Inc. is a Virtual Reality and Simulation company, co-founded by Dr. Kevin Chugh, who serves as the chief software architect on this project.

 

The Erie County Medical Center

Installation and testing of the prototype dose tracking system at the cardiac catheterization laboratory of the Erie County Medical Center (Buffalo, NY) will be conducted during the 4th quarter of 2004. Dr. Neil Dashkoff is the director of the cath lab and lead cardiologist for the project.
